Shallow?Water Tsunami Deposits: Evidence From Sediment Cores and Numerical Wave Propagation of the 1601 CE Lake Lucerne Event

چکیده
The 1601 CE earthquake (Mw ca. 5.9) in “Unterwalden,” Central Switzerland, triggered multiple subaqueous mass movements and a subaerial rockfall that generated tsunami waves with run-up heights of up to 4 m several hundred meters inundation along the coastal lowlands Lake Lucerne. In shallow Lucerne Bay, historical chronicles reported an oscillation water initial amplitude ?1–2 period 10 min, which continued for days after event decreasing amplitude. Here, we investigate lake-tsunami process chain from movement-generated wave propagation ultimately sediment resuspension, transport, deposition shallow-water environment. effects on Bay are reconstructed using sediment-core analysis numerical simulation propagation. A 60-cm-thick deposit was recovered transect waters radiocarbon dated 1306–1442 cal CE. has sharp basal contact carbonate shell fragments followed upwards normally graded succession siliciclastic sand silt high proportion horizontally bedded wooden particles. numerically simulated characterized by water-surface displacement 1.5 generate bed shear-stresses likely capable remobilizing large amounts sediments area. Our study successfully links sedimentology deposits physical principles mobilization derived wave-forward modeling, providing tool improve identification interpretation potential deposits.

Numerical simulation of a tsunami event during the 1996 volcanic eruption in Karymskoye lake, Kamchatka, Russia
Karymskoye caldera lake is a nearly circular body of water with a diameter of approximately 4 km and a depth of up to 60 m. The sublacustrine, Surtseyan-type eruption in the lake on 2–3 January 1996 included a series of underwater explosions. A field survey conducted the following summer showed signs of tsunami wave runup around the entire coastline of the lake, with a maximum of 29 m runup at ...
متن کاملThe influence of event attributes on tourist’s loyalty: Evidence from the Ashoura event in Yazd City
Many studies have found that the perceived authenticity of cultural and religious events affects event satisfaction and loyalty. Little is currently known about how perceived authenticity is affected by the facilities, such as food and the availability of information, which are independent determinants of satisfaction and loyalty. This study aims to examine the antecedents of event loyalty. Que...
